Legal Restrictions
- Never set off fireworks in public places, roads, footpaths, parks or beaches without a permit
- Some areas are closed to the public to protect the environment from fires
- Do not light fireworks when it is windy
- Have a bucket of water handy and wet spent fireworks to ensure they don't re-ignite
- Do not buy or sell fireworks outside the legal window (Nov 2 - Nov 5)
- It is illegal to ignite fireworks after 10:30pm on most nights, though some Councils have failed in their civic duty to apply fireworks bylaws
- Never point fireworks at people, animals, or properties
Compliance: Breach of these rules can lead to fines or prosecution by local authorities.
